CIT \ SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR

The Systems Administrator option is a two-year program incorporating primarily the Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA) certification and the Cisco Certified Network Administrator (CCNA) certification. Edison Community College is a Microsoft IT Academy and a Cisco Academy commissioned to deliver technical training and education.

Students who complete this degree are qualified to install, configure, manage troubleshooting, support a network operating system, and install and manage network infrastructure.

In addition to the five general CIT outcomes, the student will: 6) Design and implement fundamental network security solutions; 7) Configure WLAN products including access points, bridges, client devices and accessories; 8) Demonstrate proficiency in hardware and software installation and configuration; 9) Design and implement LAN and WAN infrastructures; 10) Manage server resources, monitor server performance, and safeguard data.

Students who pass certification exams and submit verification can receive college credit as follows:
    - Students with A+ certification may apply to receive credit for CIT 215S.
    - Students with Server+ certification may apply to receive credit for CIT 211S.
    - Students with Network+ certification may apply to receive credit for CIT 235S.
    - Students with CCNA certification may apply to receive credit for CSC 110S, CSC 111S, CSC 130S, and CSC 131S.
    - Students with MCSA or MCSE certification may apply to receive credit for up to 16 credit hours of NEP courses.

The MCSA certification is granted by Microsoft when the student passes the CompTIA A+, Network+ and three Microsoft certification exams (070-270 or 072-270), (070-290 or 072-290), and (070-291 or 072-291). CSC 110S, CSC 111S, CSC 130S, and CSC 131S help prepare students for the CCNA certification exam.
