What is an ISO
CD/DVD Image? Products posted to the MSDNAA Software Center are usually
posted as ISO image files delivered to your computer through a Secure
Delivery Client (SDC). An ISO image file is an exact representation of a CD
or DVD, including the content and the logical format. ISO files from MSDN
end with either an .ISO or .IMG extension. The extension might need to be
changed to work with your CD writing software. Common utilities for writing
an ISO file to recordable media such as CD-R include ISORecorder, Nero, and
Roxio. The contents of images files can be extracted to hard drive using
utilities such as WinImage, ISObuster or DaemonTools. Image files can be mounted locally
for access through a drive letter by using virtual disk drivers such as
Virtual CloneDrive,
Virtual CD-ROM Control Panel for Windows XP, or
FileDisk (WinImage
now also includes FileDisk as an optional add-on during installation). You
can also burn the image to a CD/DVD using the appropriate software.
